Meeting Boss and Aziz

Warning: This post contains images which may be too graphic for people
The other day Astu, one of the women who works for Herma, had to have her dog neutered, and they needed a sterile place to do the surgery. That sterile place ended up being our kitchen counter with a sheet thrown over it. It was exciting. The process started with the vet asking how much Boss (the dog) weighed. The owner picked him up and replied "20 kilos?". The vet gave boss a shot and we all looked at each other for about 5 minutes while Boss looked confused and not the least bit sleepy, so the vet gave him another dose. We waited another 5 minutes and Boss was still as energetic as ever. The vet gave him another shot with about 3 times the amount of sedative, and then the fun started. Boss's head got heavy and he started looking around really slowly. Then he stumbled over to his owner and tried to hump his leg. When the owner kicked him away he went and pissed in the corner, then he fell asleep on the floor in the puddle he had just made. It reminded me of watching the OSU kids on Thursday nights in Corvallis. We carried Boss over to the counter while the Vet and his assistant washed their hands and dried them on their pants. Then they squirted an alcohol solution on their tray of tools and threw a match in to sanitize them (Just as good as an autoclave). They sprayed a bunch of the same solution on their hands then blew on them so they would dry faster. Then they held him down and did their surgury. He only whimpered a little bit (I guess he wasn't all the way knocked out, poor guy).

That evening, after a very successful operation, we threw Boss in the back of the truck and took him home. That was where we met Aziz, Astu's grandson. He is awesome. This is Scotty with Aziz and Astu. Aziz got a kick out of the fact that our Wolof was at a simar level as his. When I showed him this picture on the camera screen, the first thing he did it pointed at my picture and declared "Toubab (white person)". I wish I could have gotten a video of him watching himself on video, but you kind get the idea from this one.

Rubes, I think you just have to wait a little longer. I thought it wasn't going to play either, then all of a sudden it started.
Crystal, that is a very funny dog story. It is so Africa, kinda getting the sterilization thing, but not quite... Has the poor dog woken up yet?
