Ah... observed holidays! We took advantage of the days off and headed towards the hills...Jefferson Wilderness to be specific. This was our first backpacking of the season.

We camped near this meadow the second night. It is always a weird feeling to walk from a dense forrest of Douglas Firs and Pines into a wide open meadow.
We built this shelter to practice, maybe next time we will spend the night in it.

Kaitlynn decided it would be cool to hike up to the top of Mary's Peak. Crystal was an innocent bystander that got tricked into going along. ..okay that's not true, she was a willing participant.
It took us about 3 hours to get to the top of this 4,097 foot beauty, but the view and the sense of accomplishment was worth every minute.
Joei didn't think so though.
